Star Wars : episode 5 of The Acolyte will be remembered
If the first four episodes of Star Wars The Acolyte they had been quite effective, yet they had not made much of an impression. No moments really noteworthy, except Carrie Anne-Moss’s death in the first scene. A choice that didn’t have a real emotional impact given that we were just discovering her character, but which had the gift of surprising (even annoying) given the actress’s notoriety. However, we remained far from the shock of episode 5. An episode marked by revelations on the identity of the series’ antagonist, and of the deaths of several main characters which we have come to appreciate a lot.

Their interpreters reacted promptly after the episode aired on Disney+. They knew full well what awaited them, but they had to keep it a secret for many months. They were then finally able to express their point of view on creator Leslye Headland’s choices in an interviewEW.
“I like that he kills people”
For Dafne Keenwho plays Jedi Jecki, there was no real surprise since Leslye Headland would have told him the color right from the start by telling him “You’ll play an alien and die pretty quickly“. But the actress was not disappointed in the fate of her character. On the contrary, this big fan of Star Wars he felt that the creator’s boldness was an asset and allowed the viewer to be more involved.
I really like the fact that (Leslye HEadland) kills people. Because if there is no real danger, what is at stake? How do you feel invested in the story? Leslye makes us love these characters more so we can slaughter them like pigs.

Dafne Keen also highlights the fact that this massacre in episode 5 of The Acolyte allows you to make the antagonist a real villain (something which, in our opinion, has often been missing in the series Star Wars). Qimir, who thus revealed himself to be a Sith, is “powerful and scary” precisely because he proves ruthless and is capable of killing characters appreciated by the public. Something that happens too rarely in certain sagas according to Jecki’s interpreter.
In highly successful sagas, directors are afraid of killing their characters. Or they try to bring them back to life and find advice from screenwriters to keep them alive…
Charlie Barnett didn’t want to see Dafne Keen die
What remains is that the violence of episode 5 of Star Wars The Acolyte It’s surprising considering that it’s a Disney+ production. If we look at the previous series on the platform, we have to admit that everything was done to stay mainstream. Leslye Headlan therefore wanted to change the situation and managed to impose her idea by remembering that before her the public had already seen Anakin eliminates all the young Padawans.
However, even though Dafne Keen and Charlie Barnett (Yord) accepted their fate and joked about it together on set, it was still a difficult time to go through while filming the scenes. At least for Charlie Barnett, who refused to witness Jecki’s death.
They asked me if I wanted to see Dafne die and I said, “No, are you kidding me? I love her. I don’t want to see her die four times. It’s just visceral and too sad. No, I don’t need all that.”
A disturbing Sith Lord
It wasn’t just these two victims who spoke, but also their killer, played on screen by Manny Hyacinth. The latter, who trained for four months to film the fights in episode 5, had to keep it a secret the identity of the Sith for a long time. From that moment on he naturally found himself in the role of this character who hides the truth.
He’s such a quiet character, that no one pays attention to, and suddenly he’s the one pulling the strings.
The actor then went into more detail about the characterization of his character, the exact opposite of Darth Vader, and also confirmed that Qimir was indeed a Sith Lord.
We wanted a disturbing character, who wasn’t some sort of Darth Vader dominating the screen, but who exuded strangeness. It’s this discomfort that people feel when they see this Sith Lord.
Finally, Manny Jacinto gave the beginning of an explanation on the matter Qimir says the last sentence at the end of episode 5 of Star Wars The Acolyte. A mysterious phrase (“Even in the revelation of our triumph, we see the depth of our despair“) which should open towards the third act of the series.
We are entering completely different territory. It is a different world that we will present to you. Not just a new story, but new motivations for all the characters.
Following Star Wars The Acolyte will be available for discovery on July 3, the date episode 6 airs on Disney+.
