Dracula Untold: the legend revisited

Dracula Untold, directed by Gary Shore and released in 2014, is an action-fantasy film that revisits the origins of the famous vampire Dracula. The film stars Luke Evans in the lead role of Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia, who turns into a vampire to protect his people from the Ottoman invaders. This choice led him to become the legendary Count Dracula.

The story begins with Vlad Tepes, also known as Vlad the Impaler, a feared and respected warrior. With his kingdom threatened by the Ottoman Empire, Vlad desperately searches for a way to save his family and his people. He ends up making a deal with an ancient dark forceagreeing to become a vampire to gain the powers necessary to repel the invaders.

This is the first time Dracula is shown in superhero style. Which didn’t please everyone. The film was intended to launch Universal Pictures’ shared monster universe, known as the “Dark Universe”. But due to poor feedback, the project was put on hold and it was later announced that Dracula Untold would not be canon in the Dark Universe.

At the box office, the film was still a success, grossing three times its production budget ($217 million in revenue, on a $70 million budget).

Ten years after its release in cinemas, Dracula not told is experiencing an unexpected resurgence in popularity on Netflix. In fact, the film has become a global hit on the streaming platform after its recent addition. In many other countries the feature film has risen to the top of the most watched films, demonstrating that the public is finding a new interest in this modern version of the Dracula legend.
