And to stay on topic, we invite you to discover another genre film starring dangerous sharks deep down, the appropriate name 47 meters below. Directed by Johannes Roberts, this feature film released in 2017 (directly on VOD) is not recommended for those suffering from claustrophobia or depth phobia.

The film stars Mandy Moore and Claire Holt in the lead roles of Lisa and Kate, two sisters on vacation in Mexico who decide to take a cage diving to observe sharks:

What starts out as a thrilling adventure quickly turns into a nightmare when the cable holding the cage breaks, sending the two women plummeting 150 feet to the bottom of the ocean. Trapped in the cage, with limited oxygen and hungry sharks lurking all around them, Lisa and Kate must find a way to surface before their time runs out.

A Nightmare Ending (SPOILER)

The end of 47 meters below is particularly memorable for its unexpected turn. After several desperate attempts to communicate with the surface boat and find an exit, Lisa manages to free the cage and slowly ascend to the surface with Kate.

Along the way, Lisa experiences hallucinations due to nitrogen narcosis, a condition caused by high underwater pressure and lack of oxygen. When they finally reach the surface, they are rescued and brought back to safety. However, the film reveals that this rescue scene was actually a Lisa’s hallucination. In truth, she is still at the bottom of the ocean, badly injured and severely deprived of oxygen.

The real rescue finally occurs when the rescue team arrives and brings Lisa back to the surface, even though Kate did not survive.
