Flash’s Candice Patton explains why she was missing from multiple episodes of season 8

another season the flash he came and went and the stories ended (including Diggle’s long story arc). However, some may still wonder why Candice Patton missed a few episodes during season eight. She was a scratch on the head, but the actress provided information about her absences. And unsurprisingly, COVID played a role.

Through social networks, fans of the flash noted the fact that Candice Patton’s Iris West-Allen was absent for four consecutive episodes towards the end of season 8. In the story, it was explained that the character was coping with her illness at the time. But more recently, Patton revealed on her Instagram Stories about her, via television line, that his contract was designed in a way that would allow him to appear in fewer episodes. It was basically a safety mechanism in case the borders between the United States (where he lives) and Canada (where the show is filmed) were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the post, the actress also explained that after the jump she was “more than happy” to appear in more episodes if the situation holds up (which she did). However, the network decided not to exercise that option in the deal, meaning things would stay as planned.

Honestly, it’s a little disappointing that things turned out the way they did. With much of season 8 centered around Iris and her growing time sickness, one would have thought that such a thing would take center stage in the final episodes of the season. However, on the bright side, fans will see more Iris West-Allen in season 9, as it has been confirmed that Patton will be back for next season, which will debut mid-season on The CW.

The Season 8 finale not only fixed Iris’s illness, it also included a huge twist that apparently saw the Reverse-Flash killed once and for all. The episode was written as the climax of the series, so there seemed to be some finality in the process. At the moment, it’s unclear what will happen in Season 9, although I hope Iris will be relieved after everything she’s been through.

One thing we do know is that season 9 will include the return of a big villain. The penultimate episodes of season 8 anticipated the return of Ramsey Rosso, aka Bloodwork, via the comic, a revelation that was on par with the adapted DC Comics series. Team Flash definitely has a big weight on their shoulders with Reverse-Flash seemingly gone, but you can bet Red will turn things around for them in the worst possible way.

It is currently unknown if season 9 will be the flashis the latest but, since the season 8 finale has been slated as the final episode, the producers may be looking to wrap up next year for sure. Such a thing would be bittersweet, but the idea is made even better by the fact that Candice Patton will still be around and (hopefully) in more episodes.

Looking forward to next season the flashbe sure to check out the Gossipify 2022 TV schedule for the shows in the meantime.
