The plot follows Julien (Éric Caravaca), a young writer in search of recognition, who meets Judith Zahn (Karin Viard), an influential publisher. Fascinated by her power and charisma, Julien sees in Judith a door in the Parisian literary world to which he has no access. Their interactions quickly evolve from a purely professional relationship to a complex and tumultuous romantic relationship.
One day, Julien accidentally discovers among Judith’s personal effects the fascinating story of her father, a revolutionary who died in combat in South America. Seduced by this heroic figure, Julien decides to write a novel about this man who idolizesbut without informing Judith.
When he finishes the manuscript, Julien presents it to Judith, hoping for her approval. However, Judith feels deeply betrayed by this initiative taken behind her back, especially since the subject touches her family intimately. She forbids the publication of the book and breaks off their relationship, the feeling manipulated and hurt.
Refusing to let his career dictate to him and convinced of the value of his work, Julien decides to publish the book despite Judith’s prohibition. The novel becomes a huge successattracting the attention of the public and critics. Disgusted and furious at this public and professional betrayal, Judith plots revenge against Julien, determined to make him pay for his audacity.
A film that went unnoticed in France despite the casting
The film The ambitious one was not a success in French cinemas, and went completely unnoticed, remaining on the screen for only three weeks.
