The 2024 Palme d’Or is revealed with a tense and sulphurous first trailer

The new film by American director Sean Baker, Stillduring its presentation in competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, was not among the favorites. But it is precisely this “romantic” thriller that left the Croisette crowned by the Palme d’Or. A surprise for those who have tried their hand at predictions, with big names like Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard, Everything we imagine as light by Payal Kapadia or Wild fig seeds of Mohammad Rasoulof then considered favourite for the supreme reward.

Masterful film of American neo-noir cinema with an East Coast vein, Still tells the following story:

Anora, a young stripper from Brooklyn, turns into a modern Cinderella when she meets the son of a Russian oligarch. Without thinking twice, she enthusiastically marries her Prince Charming; but when the news reaches Russia, the fairy tale is soon put in jeopardy: the young man’s parents leave for New York with the firm intention of canceling the marriage…

An exciting first trailer

Expected in French cinemas the October 30, 2024, Still has recently been revealed. The first official US trailer has been released (video below) and, increased in energy, defines the framework and the atmosphere of the dramatic story between Anora (Mikey Madison) and Ivan (Mark Eydelshteyn). Reinvention of the myth of Cinderella and anti-Pretty Woman, Still brings to the forefront the young actress Mikey Madison. This, never seen before in this type of production, gives a memorable performance.
