Turning Deadpool and Wolverine
After years of development and aggressive teasing, Deadpool and Wolverine is finally on the screens. An important film for the public as well as for Marvel Studios, a promise for the fans of the two superheroes of extraordinary adventure and for those responsible for the MCU, this is a crucial step. One way or another, but with the greatest possible box office success, will Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman succeed in reviving the universe that killed the genre in front of Shawn Levy’s camera? The answer is YESand in a way as unexpected as it is touching.

He, despicable and evil
Before we move on to the fundamental and surprising quality of the film, let’s review the expected, which meets expectations without exceeding them. In fact, although the action sequences are generous and fun, they are not always readable, with a increased use of digital effects with highly improvable fluidity. Too often it is on the blood splatter and creative physical abuse that the eye is deliberately drawn, as characters clash in settings that act as arenas, and settings that are overall rather ugly. THE production design mixing CGI and live action is not the strong point of the tandem Shawn Levy – Ryan Reynolds (Free boy, Adam in time), know-how that the director has mastered best during the period of Night at the Museum AND Night at the Museum 2.

But also visually ugly, Deadpool and Wolverine it is so intensely watered Ryan Reynolds’ humorborderline cruel, annoying and deliberately stupid, that we willingly let ourselves get involved in all its twists and turns. Deadpool talks continuously to say nothing but nonsense, but that’s what it takes to make Wolverine smile again, in total depression when Deadpool brings him back from (almost) death. The chemistry between the two superheroes is perfect: Wolverine is a melancholic anxious and Deadpool is an extroverted angst.
A necessarily explosive combination where locks explode and bodies collide in a frenetic montage, often in tight spaces, translated into the ultra-violent action comedy of Deadpool’s gleefully deviant and homoerotic fantasy for Wolverine. If Ryan Reynolds plays in his league, true to himself and hard to judge, note that Hugh Jackman undoubtedly plays here, after Logan, his best performance as Wolverine.
Premium Fan Service
Deadpool and Wolverine he assumes it’s for his fans. And he values his audience enough to value them more hardcore that “deadpoolix”. So of course there’s Deadpool’s constant breaking of the 4th wall, dozens of kills piling up, and a grumpy, brutal Wolverine finally donning his yellow and blue costume. Deadpool and Wolverine spoils its audience and with them openly makes fun of Disney and Kevin Feige. Nothing serious anyway, but the criticism of the Disney company hits the target, formulated in the first degree and in the second degree with its cinematic alter ego: the TVA (the Court of Anachronistic Variations, which guarantees the non-collapse of the multiverse system, here represented by a very Succession of Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen).
Above all there is cameo of prestigious guests. We’ll only reveal half of it: Chris Evans has a very coherent sequence, but not at all in the role of Captain America… Deadpool & Wolverine’s cameos are very successful, as the more famous the actor and the character are, the more they will be compensated by the appearances of more secondary characters, such as Sabretooth, once again played by Tyler Mane. The hierarchy and developments of each cameo are very satisfying and explicitly state the true intention of the film.
A Smart and Touching Homage to Superhero Cinema
The film’s deep intention is not to interconnect with the MCU. Deadpool and Wolverine he is generous himself and for himselfit’s different and it’s not really sharer. And if it is, it’s in sharing the legacy of superhero movies of the 20th Century Foxin a form of verticality that first of all includes Deadpool and Wolverine in the history of cinema, before participating in that of the MCU and Disney.
This MCU, transformed into a war machine by the entertainment giant, has abolished as if by horizontality any long-lasting relationship – reducing the X-Men, Elektra, Blade and the other Fantastic Four to the status ofmummified antiques -, as in a short time: Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, everything has to happen very quickly and happen in the “same” time and in the “same” place, the chaos of the multiverse allows us to (to confuse all the proposals and to make the films as series interdependent.

At that time, Deadpool and Wolverine Shawn Levy obviously not Joker by Todd Phillips, or even Loganbrilliant models of independent, autonomous such. In fact, it technically doesn’t display on the screen all the love that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have for their characters and the history of superhero cinemathe collective and their. But it is not for lack of trying. Far from there. And it is in this place that Deadpool and Wolverine becomes deeply touching. Remembering the superheroes cast into oblivion, the “misfits” in the mold of Disney’s version of the MCU, the lonely, poorly constructed, too crude, too stupid, too different, those who only had one movie or none at all, constantly making assault on sincerityDeadpool does much more than pay homage to Wolverine, the greatest of all these outcasts and exiles.
Together, the two superheroes, the remorseful alcoholic with his hands cut off and the degenerate crushed by loneliness, offer a last stand to all the representatives of their endangered species. A bit like Butch Cassidy and the Boy. But with a happy ending. And of course the final post-credits middle finger ends in style.
The most original and complete Marvel film since 2019, Deadpool and Wolverine thus opens a new era for the superheroes of the House of Ideas, in his unique style and not necessarily recommendable, but entertaining enough to make us ask for more. Ryan Reynolds is still the baddest guy in Hollywood. But hell, he is captivating when he is sincere.
