Popular series is based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, but would be adapted in another way

Available at Amazon Prime Video, The Boys has established itself as one of the most popular series in recent years. In total, the work based on the homonymous comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson It has four seasons released, already has its spin-offs and has made characters like Billy Bruto and Captain Pátria known all over the planet.

We don’t yet know if there are plans to bring the series’ universe to the big screen, as has already happened with other renowned shows. But if it were up to the will of those responsible for the adaptation, The Boys would have become, in reality, a trilogy of films.

The curiosity was revealed by Rolling Stone USAin a report focused on the premiere of the fourth season. The story began when the actor and producer Seth Rogen and your creative partner Evan Goldberg together they bought the first edition of the franchise’s comic book — exactly on the day of its release, in October 2006.

Rogen said that both he and Goldberg liked what they saw right away. That’s when the two tried to convince Sony to adapt the comic for the big screen. They said:

Rogen: We thought (when reading the comic), ‘Holy s**t, this is insane.’ That week, we went to Sony and we said, ‘Guys, you have to do this.’

Goldberg: And they already said, ‘We’re going, with other people.'”

The Boys, Sony and the film trilogy

THE Sony actually acquired the rights to adapt the comics into films. However, for a decade, the project did not take off.

The director Adam McKayincluding, had the idea of adapting The Boys into a trilogy of films. It got to the point where I had a finished script and a demo of what some scenes would look like.

However, the idea did not go ahead. The rights returned to the hands of Rogen, Goldberg and also Eric Kripkethe person largely responsible for the series.

The creator’s opinion

For Darick Robertson himself, it was better to see his work become a series rather than a trilogy of films. In his opinion, the comics did not become a feature-length saga simply because “it was 2008 and not 2018”.
