While fans prepare for another edition of Rock in Rio, which starts on September 13, the festival’s organizers rehearse the musical Dreams, Mud and Rock and Roll.

The show is part of the event’s 40th anniversary celebration and promises to thrill the audience with a tour through the history and behind the scenes of the world’s biggest music and entertainment festival.

Dreams, Mud and Rock and Roll is a musical that celebrates the courage to pursue dreams that seem impossible. The work delves into the trajectory of Roberto Medina – creator of Rock in Rio –, from the conception to the global success of the event.

In total, there will be four daily performances during the seven days of the festival.

40 years of stories

The actor who plays Medina is Rodrigo Pandolfowho became known for his role as Juliano in My Mother is a Piece.

It is a great honor to pay tribute to Roberto Medina, simply one of the greatest names in the music and entertainment industry on the planet. For me, it is already historic,” says Pandolfo.

Malu Rodrigues, Beto Sargentelli, Bel Kutner, Andre Dias, Gottsha, Guilherme Logullo and more than 40 actors, dancers, musicians and singers complete the production.

The show was created by Roberto Medina, with musical direction and soundtrack by Joe Ricardotext and general direction of Charles Möellerconceived by Möeller & Botelho and produced by Rock in Rio.

“There’s an African saying that I love: ‘Until the lion tells his side of the story, the hunter will always be the hero.’ That was the premise and it became my guide,” explained Möeller.

“With the super cult of celebrities, we always end up hearing countless stories about the artists who came, their eccentric demands and requests, their behavior on and off stage, etc… But few know everything that happened until the doors of the City of Rock opened for the first time.”

I have been doing this research for a while now and I am still surprised by the number of fascinating stories that exist and that should be told. I could make about 40 musicals, they are so fascinating. The possibility of being able to tell a little about the realization of an impossible dream that changed the history of Brazilian entertainment forever is an honor and a privilege, even more so to have this opportunity within the festival with everyone involved in this journey together with me for this celebration!”, added the general director.

The set will feature striking elements such as the iconic five-meter-long muddy sneaker from 1985 and a two-and-a-half-meter-high stage bell.

There are 40 years of unforgettable stories at Rock in Rio. We are preparing a show that lives up to the festival, which will thrill everyone who sees the production. We will delve into the history of the world’s largest music and entertainment festival, remembering how it all began, going through the challenges we faced and the dreams we realized. The scenography will be a show in itself, with elements that marked the history of Rock in Rio. It will be memorable.” celebrates Roberto Medina, president of Rock World, the company that created, organizes and produces Rock in Rio and The Town.

On the soundtrack, the public will recognize emblematic songs from the 22 editions of the festival, such as “South America”of Ney Matogrosso; “Flooded”of The Paralamas of Success; “Love of my life”of the Queen; and others. In addition, an unreleased song was produced especially for the musical.

The soundtrack for this show is a musical immersion that brings to life the hits that have defined Rock in Rio over the years, both in Brazil and in Lisbon. It is a powerful combination of music and theater, taking the audience on a unique and exciting experience. Furthermore, having the opportunity to create music for this type of production is a challenge that motivates me intensely. The process opens up a range of creative possibilities, where anything can happen. We are going to put on a beautiful show,” highlights musical director Zé Ricardo.

Time travel

Dreams, Mud and Rock and Rollalso follows the author’s storyElizabeth Wolf– played by actresses Bel Kutner and Malu Rodrigues. She reflects on her life journey, especially the year 1984, when she embarked on the idea of holding a music festival in Rio. The musical will take viewers on a journey back in time to that year.

As the story unfolds, the audience goes through a rollercoaster of emotions that ends with a powerful finale, celebrating the resilience, creativity and spirit of Rock in Rio.

The show is a testament to the human capacity to dream big and the lasting impact those dreams can have. Dreams, Mud and Rock and Roll exemplifies how vision and persistence can shape not only a person’s destiny, but also the course of the cultural history of a city, a country and, by extension, the world.
