Johnny Depp settles ‘City of Lies’ assault case before trial

According to a settlement notice filed in court on Monday, Depp has reached an agreement with location manager Greg “Rocky” Brooks that requires Depp to abide by the unspecified terms of the settlement by the end of August.

“The settlement agreement is contingent upon the withdrawal of this matter following satisfactory completion of the specified timeframes, which must not be met within 45 days of the settlement date,” the statement said. The resignation request will be filed until 01/05/2023.

The terms of the deal were not detailed in the statement. The case will be reopened if Depp fails to abide by the terms.

Brooks sued Depp in 2018, claiming the actor hit her twice while drunk. He claimed that Depp yelled at him, punched him twice in the ribs, and offered him $100,000 to fight back. Brooks was reportedly fired from the production after he reneged on his promise not to prosecute the incident. He also accused Depp of using drugs on set and smelling of alcohol during the reunion.

After the lawsuit was filed, the film’s script supervisor Emma Dunoff defended Depp, saying she had evidence the incident never happened. She filed a sworn affidavit in court saying that she witnessed the fight and that Depp only confronted Brooks after the venue manager racially abused a homeless black woman.

“He immediately got up from our shared seat in the garden box and walked over to Brooks to support the woman,” Danoff said. “Aten. Depp told Mr. Brooks: ‘You can’t talk to him like that. Do you think it’s less than you? Who do you think you are? How dare you?'”.

Denoff denied Brooks’ claim that Depp hit him and that he had photos to prove it.

Depp was represented by Camille Vazquez, who was part of his legal team in the defamation duel with Amber Heard. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Arbella Azizian, who represents Brooks, also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
