The first three episodes of the new season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are now available in the Prime Video catalog
In the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerit is remarkable all the care and respect that the showrunners had when bringing the most famous fictional fantasy universe to TV.
However, in order not to leave anything out that could displease fans of the work of JRR Tolkienin addition to introducing a new audience to this rich narrative, the eight episodes ended up feeling like just a long, detailed prologue.
Now, after two years of waiting, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns more confident in the episodes of its second season, seeming to have finally found its tone, and presenting a fearless plot, even more epic and unafraid to show what it’s made of.
Betrayal and manipulation mark the new episodes
The new chapters have an urgency that was missing from the previous year, even though all of their parallel plots are difficult to handle and some of them are less developed and contribute little to the story moving forward.
The plots became more balanced and received a better division within each episode, expanding their universe and creating a stronger connection between the audience and the characters.
In the previous season, it was difficult to delve into the characters’ stories, considering the number of them spread across different groups, but the second season allows the viewer to build affinity and become more attached, reacting to the tragedies and betrayals present in the new episodes. And betrayal is one of the central themes of the new season.
In the very first episode, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power delivers the mystery surrounding a character’s past, the new threat he poses, and what his next steps will be. While the first season focused on the efforts to maintain light and life in Middle-earth, the new year can’t escape the darkness that the villain represents, now that the identity of Sauron (Charlie Vickers) was revealed.
After disguising himself as the exiled king HalBrandthe villain assumes the role of protagonist and shows that his gift of the gab is capable of deceiving even Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), will be your greatest ally in conquering Middle Earth. With each episode, he shows himself to be more manipulative, sadistic and relentless.
The Magic of Middle Earth
Now on the technical side, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power remains stunning and it is difficult to look away from the screen given the construction of this universe. The art direction, photography and soundtrack stand out for being fundamental to enriching the fantasy narrative.
Despite not having reached its full potential in these first three episodes, the second season of the series already makes clear its ambition and determination to become one of the biggest productions in the history of TV, beating great productions such as game of Thrones and its derivative, The House of the Dragon.
