Alyson Hanniganknown for playing Lily Aldrin in How I Met Your Motherconfessed that he never watched How I Met Your Father. In an interview with Peopleshe recalled meeting with Cobie Smulderswho took over the role of Robin Scherbatsky on the sitcom and revisited the character in the spinoff.

Second Hannigan, Smulders showed her “a bunch of pictures from the set,” and it “kind of made” her “heart hurt”: “And I was like, ‘I don’t think I’m ready to watch it. ‘”

The actress said that her husband, Alexis Denisofalso appeared in the new series as Sandy Rivers, a television anchor who was present in How I Met Your Mother. “I probably should have watched that episode,” he joked.

The direction of Pamela Fryman was another factor that encouraged Hannigan watching the spinoff — but not enough. Fryman directed episodes of both series. “So I should have watched it, but I just couldn’t,” he argued. “It made me sad, because I was like, ‘It’s the same set.'”

How I Met Your Father has the same shape as How I Met Your Mother. The most recent production, however, features a new cast and narration by Kim Cattrall. The show ran for two seasons, but did not reveal the father in question.
