JLo reveals the terrible accident that convinced her to care more about herself than her job

It’s been two great years for singer, actress and dancer Jennifer Lopez, who grabbed Oscar’s attention for her role in crook and then hosted a Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira before rekindling a romance with Ben Affleck and starring in his documentary. As you can imagine, JLo works a lot, but she says she was recently inspired to “get it right” after a terrible accident convinced her of the importance of self-care in her career.

Earlier in his career, working around the clock to make albums, movies, concerts, and even trying to be present in his personal life really killed JLo. In its most recent in the jlo newsletter, the star shared how a health scare led her to the importance of getting enough sleep and making sure you take care of yourself.

There was a time in my life when I was sleeping [three] a [five] hours per night. I was on set all day and in the studio all night and traveling and shooting videos on weekends. I was twenty and thought I was invincible. Until one day I was sitting in a trailer, and all the work and stress that came with it, and the lack of sleep to recover mentally, weighed on me. I went from feeling completely normal to thinking about what I should be doing that day and suddenly I felt like I couldn’t move … I was completely frozen. I had made my job such a compelling priority and had completely abandoned my self-care needs (even just like sleeping or taking ten minutes to relax). I found myself physically paralyzed, I couldn’t see well, then the physical symptoms started to scare me and the fear got worse.

Over the course of her career, the winner of a Grammy and other awards has apparently faced much of the kind of stress that would affect anyone’s sleep. She thought she felt “invincible” until her work-life balance hit it, after which she was “frozen”. In her newsletter about her, Jennifer Lopez went on to talk about the terrifying panic attack she suffered about her and what the doctor told her was to blame.

Now I know it was a classic panic attack caused by fatigue, but I had never heard the term at the time. My security on set came in, picked me up and took me to the doctor. When I arrived I could at least talk again and I was so terrified that I thought I was losing my mind. I asked the doctor if I was going crazy. He said to me: ‘No, you’re not crazy. You need to sleep … sleep 7-9 hours a night, don’t drink caffeine, and be sure to exercise if you plan on doing so much work. I realized how serious the consequences could be if I ignored what my body and mind needed to be healthy, and that’s where my journey into wellness began.

Fortunately, it’s a routine that has apparently served him well. Despite the stressors, he talked about how to manage scrutiny of the tabloids specifically related to her three failed marriages and the in a “rough” way she and Ben Affleck were treated when they started dating, these days she seems to be in a better position with her schedule.

It’s a lesson learned about the importance of listening to your body and focusing on well-being. Lopez used those lessons as part of her major new business move, JLo Beauty, where she said her five beauty principles were “sunscreen, serum, supplements, (live) healthy and SLEEP.” a little extra boost in your day.

Personally I hope Jennifer Lopez continues to be healthy so that she can continue to use her brilliant talent in everything she does. As important as her work is to her, Lรณpez managed to find a balance remain the superstar you are as you focus on being a loving mother and having a “satisfying” relationship after rekindling with Ben Affleck .
