Shogun: The Phenomenon Series Breaks Awards Record

Shoguna largely successful gamble

After a first adaptation released in 1980, which was a great success, this year fans of the novel of the same name by James Clavell were able to discover the series Shogun. This invites us to follow the fates of three characters in 17th century Japan: a protestant sailor whose boat ran aground on the Japanese coast, one of the members of the Council of Regents who shows a strong curiosity for him and a Christian translator responsible for translating this sailor’s words.

Seducing with a remake is never easy. However, that is exactly what the series created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks has managed to do. Shogun was unanimously applauded at the time of its release, thanks to its attention to historical detail, the beauty of its imagery, and the performances of its actors. It even became the most viewed series among all those present on the streaming services of The Walt Disney Company. The show also stood out by beating a record of awards.

Show breaks record for Emmy wins in one year

As reported by Variety, Shogun has has beaten the number of Emmy Awards it has received in a single year. The series had already broken this record last week during the Creative Arts Emmys, the first part of the Emmys. It had collected 14 trophies, surpassing John Adams and its 13 statuettes. And during the second part of the ceremony, this Monday, September 16, he extended his record four new victories.

While the previous record was 13 trophies won in the same year, Shogun so he did much better. With 18 trophiesthe series has set a new mark that will be hard to beat. Among the trophies won, the show has received that of best drama television series. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai were also crowned respectively best actor and best actress.

The series will continue

As a reminder, Shogun it won’t stop here. Two new seasons of the show are in preparation. We don’t know yet what they will be about. Maybe they will borrow elements from other books of the Asian Saga by James Clavell. In any case, as they explained last June, the creators of the series know how his story will end. They also assure that the second season will be “darker”. On the other hand, you’ll probably have to wait a while before you can find out.
