Gladiator 2: A Big Revelation in the New Trailer for Ridley Scott’s Film

The release of Gladiator 2 It will be one of the cinematic events of the year. After The Last Duel AND NapoleonRidley Scott to Deliver an Unexpected Sequel to His Cult Film Gladiator (2000), released 24 years ago. Since the first chapter is considered by many to be a cult work, there is as much excitement as fear in seeing the director return to it. Gladiator 2 will take place years after the events of the first film. Rome is ruled by two tyrannical emperors, but the future of the Empire may once again be decided in the Colosseum. In the first trailer, we found out Lucio, son of Lucillavictim of Rome’s ambition after an attack by General Marco Acacio where he lives. After losing everything, he returns to his hometown as a gladiator, aided by Macrinus who, for his part, wants to take power…

A new promotional video (in one of the articles) has been revealed. This puts the emphasis on action again. Between the attack on a fortified city by the Roman army and the fighting in the arena, this time with the appearance of baboons (which we were told during production).

The revelation about Lucio and Massimo

Beyond the epic aspect of this trailer, let’s remember the important revelation regarding the bond between Lucio and Massimo. For a long time it was theorized that the first was the son of the second. And Ridley Scott had already dropped this detail during an interview. But now it is more than official since in these images we can see him Lucilla tells her son that Massimo was his father. Paul Mescal, the interpreter of Lucius, reacted to this revelation withEW. He himself was quite surprised when he discovered this connection between the two characters, even though Ridley Scott had pointed it out to him before even giving him the script.

He talked about it in a discussion, but it’s a different thing to see it written on the page. Having this responsibility on your shoulders is interesting. (…) I was hoping that the DNA and also the physical gestures were only a part, or even a small part, of the performance. But then I tried to understand exactly who Lucius was and where the differences between him and Massimo lay.

If the images show any real similarities between the two heroes, it will indeed be interesting to see the differences. The first trailer raised this fear Gladiator 2 in the end it’s too similar to the first one from the script point of view. We can make up our own minds November 13th at the cinema.
