Villain was mentioned in the 3rd episode of the new Marvel miniseries, “Por Provações Irá Passar”, which is now available on Disney+
Agatha Ever After brought the first mention — finally! — to one of the most anticipated characters by fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Mephisto. Awaited since the release of WandaVisionfrom 2021, which gave rise to the franchise’s new miniseries, the villain appeared in a dialogue in the new episode of the production, now available on Disney+.
In the third chapter of the novelty, “Through Trials Will Pass”, Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata, Spree: Travel without Limits), one of the witches in coven of Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn, Glass Onion), alerts the character of Joe Locke (Heartstopper) about the dangers of trusting the villain.
“Did you know she traded her son for the Book of the Damned?”he says, suggesting that Agatha would have sold his son to get his hands on the Darkhold, presented in WandaVision. The boy doesn’t believe it, but she gives more details about what would have happened, finally mentioning, Mephisto.
“That’s what people say. They say no one knows what happened to him. They say he might be dead. Others say he might be a demon or an agent of the Mephisto“states Kale.
In an interview with EntertainmentWeekly, Jac Schaeffercreator of Agatha Ever Aftercommented the first reference to Mephisto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what we can expect from the villain in the future of the franchise:
“In these series, there is often something that is at the same time a joke, a wink and a nod to the audience, and actually something legitimate behind it”he explained. “As we all know, Mephisto is a character who is very involved in the story of Agatha. I mean, people have to watch, but we’re always playing with the audience like that.”
It is worth remembering that, although it is not confirmed in Agatha Ever After, Mephisto should appear in Iron Hearta new series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which features the return of Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne, Judas and the Black Messiah), after being introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever2022.
Still according to rumors, in the new feature, which will show the character transforming into a version of Iron Manthe villain must be played by Sacha Baron Cohenknown as Borat (2006) and Borat: Next Film Tape (2020). Iron Heart does not yet have a confirmed release date.
