A gripping thriller inspired by a true story
Justin Kurzel’s new film, The Orderpromises to be exciting. After The Kelly Gang in 2019 and Nitram in 2021, two films anchored in Australian history, the director this time immerses us in a true American story from the 1980s.
In the 1980s, Terry Husk, an FBI agent working in Idaho, noticed an increase in crimes (bank robberies, counterfeiting, armored vehicle thefts, etc.) in the northwestern United States. He attempts to prove that these acts are not the work of organized crime, but rather of a radical group of white nationalists, The Order, led by one Bob Mathews.
Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult face off
This thriller, starring Jude Law (Terry Husk) and Nicholas Hoult (Bob Mathews), is directly inspired by true events and based on the book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt published in 1989. The Orderselected in competition at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, it recounts the FBI investigation into the neo-Nazi and white supremacist group called “The Order”, responsible for murders and terrorist acts aimed at overthrowing the American government.
Images from the trailer just revealed (video at the top of the article) top agent Terry Husk, played by Jude Law who appears intense. Opposite him, white supremacist Bob Mathews takes on the half-angelic, half-demonic features of Nicholas Hoult. The confrontation between these two characters promises to be spectacular, fueled by numerous sequences of robberies and shootouts. The cast also includes the all-too-rare Tye Sheridan, Marc Maron and Jurnee Smollett.
Well received at the Venice Film Festival, The Order currently benefits from a critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes equal to 86%. Its release is scheduled in North American theaters on December 5, 2024, and for the moment no release date has been communicated for France, where we should be able to discover The Order on PrimeVideo.
