Actress learned to like other styles of music, but still listens to heavier music from time to time

It may not seem like it, but Margot Robbie he had his “goth phase” in his teens. The actress often says that she was a big fan of heavy metal when she was younger. She still likes the style, but has also come to appreciate other genres of music over the years — such as pop.

Like so many children raised in the 1990s, the Australian witnessed the meteoric rise of Spice Girlsone of the most famous girl bands of all time. His idolatry for them is so great that their members have shaped his concept of feminism.

The subject was addressed by Margot in conversation with Rolling Stone USA. The actress revealed how the members’ way of dressing and their attitudes influenced her way of seeing the world.

The Spice Girls changed everything and dictated my version of second wave feminism. I thought, ‘Oh my God, they wear sparkly little dresses and boob-lifting bras and have their own girl gang? This is how I want to be!’.”

Slipknot and Beach Boys fan

In the same interview, Robbie once again reinforced his “headbanger” side. The artist continues to listen to heavier sounds from time to time, with the right to mention a more underground subgenre of metal.

I had my death metal phase and I still like the style, but I also like many types of music.”

In some interviews, Robbie admitted to being a big fan of Slipknota popular group sometimes linked to nu metal. She went so far as to go to a performance by the band when they were still only performing in Australia, her home country.

In another chat, she said that the first album she bought was Sing the Sorrow (2003), from the post-hardcore group AFI.

This phase of the artist’s life went far beyond her musical taste. In a previous conversation with Rolling Stone USAstated the following:

I only listened to heavy metal, dyed my hair black and only cut it with a razor blade. So yeah, kind of goth.”

Robbie also revealed, in this same interview, that she is an unconditional fan of Beach Boys. Her idolatry for the legendary rock group began when she was just 5 years old, after listening to a tape, and grew to the point where she despised the fans. Beatles for reasons of loyalty.

I watched a documentary about how the Beach Boys would have been even more popular if the Beatles hadn’t come along and stolen the spotlight. Out of loyalty to the Beach Boys, I decided I wouldn’t listen to the Beatles.”

Another group he appreciates is the Bullet for My Valentine. In an interview with BBC Radio 1the presenter Nick Grimshaw hooked Robbie up to a heart rate monitor and exposed her to some curious situations. One of them involved a video in which Matt Tuckvocalist and guitarist of the metalcore band, dedicated the song “Tears Don’t Fall” to her during a show in 2018. Her little heart pounded, of course.
