The film Selfie is available on Netflix France
The movie selfiesdirected by five French directors – Thomas Bidegain, Marc Fitoussi, Tristan Aurouet, Cyril Gelblat and Vianney Lebasque – is now available on Netflix France.
This satirical comedy, released in theaters in January 2020, explores with humor and irony the excesses of our hyper-connected society, where social networks and technology are omnipresent. Through five intertwined stories, selfies paints a dark portrait of a world in which human interactions take shape from the obsession with screens“Like” and virtual recognition.
The film focuses on different characters representative of current society, with which to deal your relationship with technology. Whether it’s the teacher overwhelmed by digital technology, the father trapped by an app, or the teenager ready to do anything to become famous on the Internet, the film addresses different aspects of our addiction to screens.
A reflection of the black mirror
selfies is notable for its chapter structure, with each segment directed by a different director. This format allows you to address the topic from different angleswhile maintaining a light and accessible tone.
If the film chooses the register of comedy, it nevertheless raises profound questions about the way in which the omnipresence of technology and social networks change our behaviorour relationships and even our values (we think in particular of the character of Blanche Gardin, whose son suffers from leukemia and who swears by the “relevance” of her videos).
Through these intersecting portraits, the film questions the place of new technologies in our lives: have we become slaves to applications, algorithms and “likes”? What remains of our human interactions when everything passes through the screen of a smartphone? These questions, even if approached in a fun way, never fail to make you think.
In this regard, the film resembles the cult series Black mirror on the excesses of technology in human relationships.
