The Glory Days of Russell Crowe
At the end of the 90s the Australian actor Russell Crowe revealed himself to the general public with LA confidential AND Revelations. He then quickly confirmed himself at the highest levels and became a world star in 2000 with Gladiator. From there, he enjoyed a prolific decade included An exceptional man, Master and Commander: on the other side of the world, 3h10 to Yuma, American gangster, Power games AND Robin Hood.

A prequel to Master and Commander
Critically acclaimed, nominated 10 times at the 2004 Oscars, Master and Commander it is carried by Russell Crowe, as Captain Jack Aubrey, and by Paul Bettany as his friend, crew surgeon and naturalist Stephen Maturin. And as confirmed in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter by Steve Asbell, head of 20th Century Studios, a prequel is in development.
I’m trying with all my might (to produce this prequel, ed.). This was the first film I worked on at Fox, 20 years ago. We have a fantastic script. We just need the right director.
Excellent news then, for a film that would take audiences back to the 19th century maritime universe told in Patrick O’Brian’s Les Aubreyades novels, of which the 2003 film is an adaptation. But one small disappointment is that there is no chance of finding Peter Weir behind the camera. The latter in fact retired in 2011, after several experiences that disappointed and hurt him. Including that of Master and Commanderwhere her relationship with Russell Crowe had been very complicated…
