13 Hours of Michael Bay is available on Netflix
Michael Bay’s thriller 13 hoursmakes a notable entry into November’s new releases on Netflix and promises to be an intense viewing experience.
This 2016 film immerses us in one of the most significant events in recent American diplomatic history. With John Krasinski in the lead role, accompanied by James Badge Dale and Max Martini, 13 hours tells the tragic night in which six former soldiers became the last bastions of an embassy under fire.
Known for his spectacular explosions and fight scenes, Michael Bay here creates a work in which action remains at the service of dramatic intensity. Thanks to a striking visual style and an omnipresent tension, he paints a portrait of these men trapped in a situation that seems to have no way out. The realism of the fights, the performances of the actors and the engaging staging make this possible 13 hours a gripping thriller that highlights the courage of these heroes despite themselves.
The true story behind the film
13 hours is inspired by a true event, the attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, which occurred on September 11, 2012.
That day, heavily armed militants attacked the embassy building and endangered the lives of diplomats present. In the dead of this hellish night, six elite security officers – former special forces soldiers – choose to defy orders to try to protect diplomatic personnel.
For thirteen hours they fought against attackers far superior in number and means, in a clash as violent as it was unequal.
The film is an adaptation of the book by Mitchell Zuckoff, who collected the testimonies of these fighters to retrace their desperate struggle minute by minute.
