In “Fun and Games,” ninth episode of the sixth season of Better Call Saulthe public finally saw the deaths of Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) and Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian) and the mental state of Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn).

In the chapter, shaken by the death of Howardwho she had known for years, Kim decides to quit her career as a lawyer and separate from her husband, Jimmy, because she realized how they are in a “toxic” relationship, in which they both bring out the worst in each other, even though there is a lot of love and affection involved. It is worth remembering how this choice of character represented the definitive transformation of Jimmy McGill in the rascal lawyer Saul Goodman.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporterthe actress explained her initial thoughts when she found out about the decision to Kim – and how these brutal consequences completely affected the character.

What did Rhea Seehorn think of Kim’s decision in Better Call Saul?

“I was surprised [com a decisão]. That’s often been my reaction when I’ve read these great scripts for the last seven years of my life: you’re surprised and then you’re not.” Rhea Seehorn. “It makes sense right away. Nothing ever feels like a smart shock value. I was like, ‘Oh, right. That’s how much she can’t live in her own skin anymore.'”

“As she deals with this by appearing almost catatonic in a suppression of emotion, she is imploding and is absolutely desperate,” continued the actress. “She thinks, ‘I can’t be that person anymore. I have no right to practice law. I have absolutely no right to judge others.’ She’s tipped the scales in favor of those “deserving” for years, an unethical way of practicing law, and ended up with one person dead at her feet.”

Although Kim recognize that there is something that they light up in each other, she also recognizes her part in it. And finally, there’s an incredible amount of self-loathing in the thought of ‘I don’t deserve anything.’

At another point in the interview, Rhea Seehorn praised Peter Gouldproducer and one of the creators of Better Call Sauland the writers of the spin-off of breaking bad. For the actress, they maintained the “integrity” of Kim: “She’s incredibly strong and has a moral compass. That’s well buried now. And for her to make that choice, it’s the greatest penance she can figure out how to do.”
