Willy Quiroga, former Vox Dei and Argentinian rock legend, has died

Bassist and composer Willy Quirogaknown as one of the most representative figures of national rock, He died on November 21, at the age of 84.in a clinic in Quilmes.

The musician announced his retirement from the stage in August due to health problems. His last appearance was at the “Vivimos Música” festival.

Quiroga formed Vox Dei in the 1960salongside Ricardo Soulé, Rubén Basoalto and Carlos “Yody” Godoy. The group became known thanks to its concept album “La Bible”, which became a reference in Argentine rock. This album, released in 1971, revolutionized the music scene and is still considered one of the most influential of the genre.

In several interviews, Quiroga spoke with emotion about “The Bible”: “It has become a classic. Even artists like Soda Stereo, Ricardo Iorio and Andrés Calamaro have covered his songs,” he commented.

Willy Quiroga was born in Río Cuarto, but grew up in San Fernando. His interest in music began as a teenager, when he discovered rock through Elvis Presley and Bill Haley. At the age of 17, he bought his first guitar and never stopped.

Throughout his career he played with La Renga, with Ricardo Iiorio, with Divididos, he was always a character absolutely respected by his colleagues, the musicians.

With his indelible legacy and influence on different generations, Willy Quiroga will be remembered as one of the important figures of Argentine rock.
