Lance Reddick, who played the Greek god in the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, passed away in March 2023
Courtney B. Vancewho was recently cast in the series Grotesqueriewas cast as Zeus in the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The actor will replace Lance Reddickwho played the character for the first year, before passing away in March 2023.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the extraordinary cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians!”declared Vance in a communication to Variety.
“There are few moments in an actor’s career when you can honestly say you are about to embark on a series that has such a dedicated fan base, filled with characters beloved around the world and based on a highly successful book series. . I know that taking on the role of Zeus it will be a memorable experience and I will give my brother a heavenly hug, Lance Reddickwho left us too soon”, completed.
In addition to Courtney B. Vance, Daniel Diemer (The Midnight Club), Tamara Smart (Resident Evil: The Series) and Andra Day (United States vs. Billie Holiday) were also confirmed in the second year of the series. They will live, respectively, Tysonhalf-brother of Percy Jackson; Thalia Gracedaughter of Zeus; and the goddess Athenamother of Annabeth Chase.
What is the story of Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
In the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympianswe follow the story of a troubled teenager, who discovers he is the son of Poseidonthe god of the seas, which makes him a demigod. However, with the powers come all the dangers, including a hunt led by Zeuswho believes that the young man stole his Master Bolt.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is starred by Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) as Percy Jackson, Leah Jeffries (Empire: Fame and Power) as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri (Twelve Is Too Much) as Grover Underwoodwho form the protagonist trio.
In the first year, the series also featured Virginia Kull (Big Little Lies) as Sally Jacksonmother of Percy; Glynn Turman (The Supreme Voice of the Blues) as Chironthe activities director of Camp Meio Sangue, exclusively for demigods; and Jason Mantzoukas (The Good Place) as the god Dionysuswho was punished by Zeus and obliged to coordinate the place.
Toby Stephens (007 – A New Day to Die) as Poseidon, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) as Hermes, Timothy Omundson (Psycho) as Hephaestus, Adam Copeland (Vikings) as Ares, Jay Duplass (Transparent) as Hades and Lance Reddick (John Wick 4: Baba Yaga) as Zeus complete the cast. Watch the trailer:
