A new oncology symptom: a lack of this vitamin has been found in 74% of cancer patients

Oncological diseases are the second leading cause of death in Russia after heart and vascular problems.

As studies show, a vitamin deficiency can be associated with the development of malignant tumors in the body.

The link between cancer and vitamins

Simply put, a tumor arises when the body loses control of cell division and growth. Benign neoplasms do not penetrate into nearby tissues and organs, malignant ones grow rapidly, uncontrollably and with the formation of metastases.

According to scientists, certain vitamins reduce the invasiveness of tumors and their tendency to metastasize. In particular, according to the British edition of the Daily Express, vitamin D deficiency occurs three times more often in patients with advanced cancer.

In 2011, scientists examined 160 men and women with colorectal, breast, prostate, lung and thyroid cancer. It turned out that 74% have a lack or deficiency of vitamin D.

Experts have already received similar results. For example, Murilo Renato Matos Machado of Sao Paulo State University Botucatu School of Medicine analyzed data from 209 women diagnosed with breast cancer. It turned out that 55.6% lacked vitamin D and 26.2% had a deficiency.

Have you ever taken a vitamin D test?

Yes

Not

How is it related?

As endocrinologist and associate professor of the Department of Endocrinology of FNMO MI PFUR Yulia Tishova explains, traditionally, vitamin D was mainly considered a key element in the regulation of calcium-phosphorus metabolism and bone mineral density. But now new information has emerged: it has become known that vitamin D is a steroid hormone that has significant effects on a variety of physiological processes in the body.

Recent data show that low levels of vitamin D are associated with a high risk not only of cancer (mainly breast and small intestine), but also of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes and sarcopenia, the loss of skeletal muscle with age.

What to do?

First of all, it should be remembered: so far, doctors are mainly talking about the need for further research that will help to find out how vitamin D deficiency and cancer are related: it is necessary to establish whether the lack of a substance is the cause of the development of the disease or its symptoms.

However, vitamin D plays an important role in our lives, so it is important to consume foods that contain it. So add salmon, herring, sardines, canned tuna, egg yolks, mushrooms, orange juice, and regular and soy milk to your diet.
