The cursed kings : a colossal project for cinema
Dimitri Rassam, successful producer, is preparing a new cinematic challenge: adapting the saga The cursed kingsa true pillar of French literature. Twenty years after its last television adaptation, this historical fresco will come back to life on the big screen through seven feature films. The filming of the first part should begin 2026with an announced budget that oscillates between 20 and 80 million euros per film, according to information from Variety through AlloCiné.
For this new adventure, Dimitri Rassam surrounds himself with the duo Matthew Delaporte AND Alexandre de La Patellièrealready at work The Three Musketeers AND The Count of Monte Cristo. With this project, Rassam aims to tell universal stories drawn from Europe’s rich heritage:

To finance this saga, the producer created Yaplukaa European fund dedicated to large international productions. The project has already raised several tens of millions of euros, supported by prestigious partners such as Pathé, M6 AND CMA Averagewhich here marks his first foray into cinema.

The cursed kings : a literary saga that inspired game of Thrones
The cursed kings is a series of seven novels written by Maurizio Druon between 1955 and 1977. Inspired by real historical events, the saga tells the story of the decline of the dynasty of Capetianscursed according to legend by the last grand master of the Templars, Jacques de Molayburned alive during the reign of Philip the Fair.
The story opens with the end of the reign of Philip the Fairnicknamed “the Iron King”, and spans several decades marked by political rivalries, plots and fights for the throne of France. In forty yearsno less than seven kings follow one another, while the suitors, as Edward III of Englandenters the dance, announcing what will become the Hundred Years’ War.
If this story resonates with so much power, it is because it combines dramatic and epic elements, giving pride of place to political shenanigans, betrayals and tragic destinies. This historical fresco has marked generations of readers and even inspired them George R. R. Martin for writing his famous saga game of Thrones. The American author himself declared it The cursed kings they were “the historical equivalent of what I was trying to create with Westeros”.
