Beauty and the Beast’s 30th Anniversary Special Coming to Disney+ in December
HER it will be Lovely in a hybrid TV special commemorating 30 years of Beauty and the Beastclassic of Disney. In a press release, the singer said she “can’t believe” that she will be part of the “legacy of Beauty and the Beast.”
“The world will see a Lovely black and filipino! I always wanted to be a princess disneyand now I have the opportunity to work with two amazing directors, Hamish Hamilton and my favorite, Jon M. Chu,” said. “It’s surreal and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
Chuwho is executive producer of the special, also commented on the participation of HER: “With her extraordinary talent and stage presence, HER is the perfect embodiment of our Lovely and we are excited for the audience to see her in this celebration of creativity.”
“We were both influenced as storytellers by the original animated film, so it’s very exciting to collaborate together to honor the artistry of this timeless classic while inspiring a whole new generation of creators.”
In addition to a screening of the 1991 film, the production will feature never-before-seen musical performances and new sets and costumes inspired by animation. Music from the original film will also be performed for an audience at Disney Studios. The special will air on December 15th in the US on ABC and will be available on Disney+ the next day.
