If you’ve seen the first season of What if …? Last summer, you will probably remember one big highlight of the animated series: there was a story set in a universe where a zombie apocalypse infects the Avengers. After this episode, Marvel announced that it would further explore this idea on Disney + with the series. zombie wonder. At Friday’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on all things Marvel animation, attendees got a closer look at this upcoming show, and many of the MCU’s favorites are coming to the show.
When Gossipify was present at the first panel of SDCC Marvel Animation, the creators of the series announced that the following Avengers will appear in zombie wonder in zombie form: Captain America cut in half, Abomination, Ghost of Ant-Man and the waspCaptain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Okoye and Ikaris from eternal. Fighting these zombies will be Black WidowYelena Belova by Yelena Belova and Red Guardian, Shang-Chi, Katy by Awkwafina and Death Dealer (both also by Shan Chi), Hawk eyeby Kate Bishop, Vision of WandaJimmy Woo and the latest hero of the MCU, Ms. Marvel.
In the zombie episode of What if …?, the animated series brought together Spider-Man, Wasp, Okoye, Hulk, Vision among other heroes of the zombie apocalypse of the alternate universe, which has infected all kinds of augmented characters. We had an elevation of the zombie genre beyond the typical zombie, as these were zombies with superpowers! zombie wonder is based on a comic series started in 2005 by The walking dead co-creator Robert Kirkman.
Zombie Ikaris in particular appears to be a problem for these MCU characters as he apparently cannot transform into a full-fledged zombie, according to the creators. Ikaris made his MCU debut last November in eternal, where being like Superman became the main villain of the film. Additionally, the speakers shared that a squad of widows and a Skrull biker gang will be in attendance zombie wonder also, as well.
During the panel, it was also announced that zombie wonder it would be the first Disney + Marvel series to be rated TV-MA for all the extra blood it will include. The series will air in 2024, with another Marvel series on the way. Spider-Man: Year Onewhich was also discussed during the panel, with the news that Charlie Cox will play Daredevil again for the series after his live action tenure on Netflix Reckless (now on Disney + (opens in a new tab)) and recently made an appearance in Spider-Man: No homecoming.
zombie wonder It’s even more exciting now that we know that many of the MCU’s favorites, particularly those most recently introduced in Marvel’s Phase 4, will be battling the series’ zombies, as we’re also following their live action arcs on amazing movies so far and in the future. It hasn’t been specified how many of these characters will be voiced by their live actors, but the series is in its early stages.
