Gaming industry analyst published a report with market expectations and suggested an unprecedented price, which could exceed R$600
For video game fans, 2025 is a much-awaited year. This is because the launch of the new game in the franchise Grand Theft Auto is scheduled for the second half of this year, although the producer Rockstar have not yet released an official date.
After the worldwide success of previous games — with emphasis on GTA 5which broke countless records and sold more than US$800 million on its first day alone —, GTA 6 fuels even more expectations of a true revolution in the world of games.
If with the controls in their hands fans wait for new features and features never seen before, in the offices and headquarters of the developers the eyes are also attentive, mainly due to the commercial aspect.
How can GTA 6 make games more expensive?
According to a gaming industry analyst (via IGN), people involved with this market expect GTA 6 be sold for an unprecedented price. The game could surpass the standard price of 70 dollars for AAA games — the name given to titles produced by consolidated companies with a big budget, such as the franchise in question.
If expectations are confirmed, GTA 6 It can be found in stores costing between US$80 and US$100 (approximately between R$480 and R$600).
The specialist responsible for this analysis is Matthew Ballthe CEO of a consulting company specializing in video games. In a report on the games market in 2025, he states that many developers are expecting a record price of GTA so they can also charge more for their games “after decades of deflation”.
Some producers hope that the price of GTA 6 be it from $80 to $100, breaking the $70 barrier and helping $50 bonds go to $60, $60 to $70, 70 to $80 and so on.”
Why more expensive?
In messages published in social media after the release of the report, ball highlighted that this is a “desire” of the producers, but it does not necessarily mean that the Rockstar will charge 100 dollars per GTA 6. “What I said is that many in the market expect $80, if not $99.99,” he clarified. In his assumption, the game is most likely to cost 80 dollars. However, he said he understands the reasons for a possible even higher price.
The expert argues that, despite the high amounts currently charged, prices are below inflation. Therefore, if the Rockstar maintain current base prices, proportionally this would be the GTA cheapest in history.
Prices for packaged (physical) games have never been as low in real terms as they are today, despite budgets being at historic highs and player growth stagnating. GTA 6 could restore packaged game prices after decades of deflation, despite runaway cost growth.”
Ball acknowledged that an increase like this could prompt criticism from the community. However, in his opinion, reactions were less negative than expected when the last price update took place in 2020.
I can’t speculate on a game that has barely been revealed yet. But the increase from $60 to $70 in 2020 (which adjusted for less than three years of inflation control) went virtually smoothly.”
What to expect from GTA 6
While the market discusses the commercial impacts of one of the most anticipated releases in the entire history of video games — with a projection of revenue equivalent to US$1 billion in the first week alone — fans eagerly await more information.
To date, the main official publication regarding GTA 6 is a teaser released in December 2023. Despite not revealing much, the trailer shows the protagonists Jason and Lucia — the first woman in the franchise in the modern era. See below:
Reacting to fans’ anxiety, the executive director of Take Two Interactive (company that owns the Rockstar), Strauss Zelnicksaid that the wait will be “worth it”.
I think it will be extraordinary. We definitely listen to fan feedback, but remember, the biggest hits are always the unexpected ones. Everything we do has to be new and different, not derivative. I think it’s going to be breathtaking.”
“Our teams are focused on the new things you haven’t even thought of yet. You thought you were anticipating this, but this is so much bigger, better, more exciting and beautiful than you could imagine,” the executive continued. “It’s true that fan feedback is important, but you can’t be completely data-driven, you have to be creatively driven.”
“This creates enormous pressure on our teams (because) it’s not just business, it’s emotions. The stress can be enormous, but I think the whole team feels blessed that we can dedicate our lives to this,” he concluded.
Finally, Strauss Zelnick commented on fans’ “complaints” regarding expectations and waiting for the game, in addition to rumors about a possible postponement. According to him, the development team “liked the fact that people cared.”
GTA 6 is scheduled for release in autumn 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
