Hulu just made a major advertising change

As a pioneer in ad-based streaming plans, Netflix has yet to do so present your plan on multiple levels Hulu has changed its advertising approach over the years, making great strides to offer promotions that are more specific to viewers and also specific to the programming they watched. Hulu’s parent company Disney confirmed this Wednesday Ace which overturned that decision, effective immediately, and streamers should expect to see not only political-themed announcements on topics of debate, but also announcements for specific candidates. In fact, while Disney has given its approval for political advertising in the future, don’t expect the company to allow free play in this regard. One provision included in the ruling is that Disney / Hulu executives still have the right to request certain changes to advertising and other marketing material, so that the details meet their standards and practices. (In this regard, you probably don’t expect to see ads attacking Disney or its theme parks on the Florida Governor’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill.)

Additionally, this policy change is not limited to Hulu, as Disney will also allow political announcements to be broadcast on ESPN +. This part is a little less surprising, considering that’s how things went for the sports cable network on linear television.

Here’s how a Disney spokesperson explained things in a statement:

After a complete overhaul of advertising policies on its linear networks and streaming platforms in recent months, Disney is now aligning Hulu’s political advertising policies to be consistent with the cable company’s overall sports and entertainment networks and ESPN +. Hulu will now accept applicants and run ads covering a wide range of political positions, but reserves the right to request changes or alternative creatives, in line with industry standards.

Hulu first defended its advertising stance by citing the company’s policy against posting controversial content, which relates to the streaming service and other digital platforms that do not have to comply with the Communications Act founded in 1934. This law requires to television networks to convey the same attention. and access to advertising for all political parties. But calls for “censorship” and other forms of pressure from political groups have clearly had an impact behind the scenes.
