Minus 40 kilos per year: how I lost weight by setting the right goal

When the goal of “running five kilometres” isn’t enough to achieve success, you can find motivation in another: “Run to keep up with the kids”. It helped Mary lose those extra pounds and keep them off.

“My name is Marie, 29 years old, I work in the financial department of an agri-food company. Family problems led me to depression, which I ate for several years. But in the end, I managed to lose 40 extra pounds.

Do not take care! In our articles, we collect the latest scientific data and the opinions of authoritative health experts. But remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

My story

In fact, I’ve been worried about being overweight since childhood. I remember when I was 6 years old, the pediatrician told my mother that I had to watch my diet and play sports.

At school and university, I also had extra pounds, but the worst was after a miscarriage.

It happened with my second pregnancy. My husband and I were happy to learn about the second child, but when nothing came of it, I gained 15 kilograms. Then another son was born and I thought about the need to change my diet.

I once saw a video in which a mother was riding a bicycle after her daughter. I remember thinking that I couldn’t do it. But I want! It became the turning point.

I found a few like-minded people and picked the right meal plan. The popular keto diet did not help me: I liked what was prohibited there too much. I found another option.

What am I eating now

Breakfast: a dish of eggs, usually an omelette or muffins.

Lunch: meat in sauce and vegetables.

Snacks: salty crisps, cheese.

Dinner: chicken with brown rice or something similar.

My workouts

I set myself a goal – to run 5 kilometers in a year. At the time, I couldn’t even last a minute. I started with one workout per week, gradually increasing the frequency and duration.

After five months, I achieved the goal and moved on to other exercises, including strength.

I lost 40 pounds in just over a year, and I’ve been holding on for a year without too much difficulty.

What helped me

1. Set small goals.

For example, bring lunch to work during the week. Enjoy every moment of life, and don’t just watch the passing of time.

2. Love yourself

It’s not always possible, but you have to make yourself a top priority – then you can do anything!

3. Stop thinking you’re a failure.

It doesn’t paint anyone, but it takes a lot of strength. Think that in fact life is not gray at all, as you think! And there is always a place for luck.
