If you watched The Last of Usmust have noticed that Joel (Pedro Pascal, The Mandalorian) always carries a wristwatch – cracked, standing, and never taken from the arm. The object appears from the first episode and follows the character throughout the series, but what many people do not know is the emotional weight behind this detail.

The clock was a gift from Sarahdaughter of the character, just before the infection that would devastate the world begins. During the pilot episode, we see her fixing her clock to give her birthday. Hours later, she dies in her arms, victim of the violence that marks the beginning of the pandemic Cordyceps. Since then, Joel Never repaired the accessory again.

The item becomes a symbol of the character’s mourning, the time it stopped for him after the loss of his daughter. The choice to keep the clock broken is intentional and carries the weight of the pain that Joel Avoid facing directly.

In the sixth episode of season two, the Joel Miller Gain prominence again – and with it, new meanings. This time, the object appears at different times of the episode, which is structured as a great flashback. Early on, it is shown on his father’s wrist, indicating that the item has an affective value that crosses generations.

Later, with JoelThe broken clock resurfaces as a symbol of the loss and inability to move on after the traumatic events of the past.

The choice to highlight it again in the narrative reinforces the role of time as a central element in the series plot. Although functionally unusable, the clock continues to accompany this man, reflecting the marks that the character carries – both in relation to his personal history and the bond with Ellie.

What is the story of The Last of Us?

Based on the eponymous video game game, The Last of Us is located about twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization and presents Joela gross survivor, hired to smuggle Elliea 14 -year -old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

However, what would just be another job for Joel ends up turning into a dangerous journey and, to survive, both the smuggler and the girl, will need to learn to trust each other.
