Glen Powell defies death repeatedly in new ‘Survivor’ trailer

Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, William H. Macy and Michael Cera also star in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel

Glen Powell escapes death again, and again, and again, in the latest trailer for The Survivorthe next adaptation of Edgar Wright of romance The Competitor (homonym in English, The Running Man) from 1982 written by Stephen King.

The dystopian action film brings Powell as Ben Richardsa family man who decides that the only way to raise the money he needs to help his sick daughter is to appear on a popular television show with a simple concept: survive for 30 days while professional killers try to kill you — and earn a fortune. The new trailer starts with a scene from Ben filmed in the format of an interview with a reality show host, in which the character reflects: “You know, I was thinking about the show: for the next 30 days, everyone in the country is going to try to kill me. That’s crazy, right?”

The trailer hints at some wild action scenes that Wright created for the film, in addition to the gradual perception of Ben that this already insane game is also probably rigged. He teams up with some seemingly criminal figures — one of them played by William H. Macywhich gives Ben a fake identity (but refuses to sell him a C4 explosive), and another played by Michael Cerawhich says Ben: “Do you know why they were rooting for you down there? If you can survive those goons, so can they.”

In addition to Powell, Macy and Waxthe heavy cast of The Survivor account with Colman Domingo as the bombastic TV show host and Josh Brolin as its conniving producer. The film, which premieres on November 14th in the USA and on November 20th in Brazil, also features Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Emilia Jones, Katy O’Brian and Martin Herlihy.

This is the second time that The Survivor is adapted for film. In 1987, Paul Michael Glaser directed a version starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Yaphet Kotto, Richard Dawson, Maria Conchita Alonso, Jim Brown, Jesse Ventura and others. (Until Mick Fleetwood and Dweezil Zappa had small roles in the film.)
