“I can’t go and play a character I don’t feel”
Franck Pitiot agreed to play in the first part Kaamelott without having read the script first. And in a recent video for the YouTube channel Geek magazinehe explained that he had been “a little frustrated” through this process. He then asked to read the script for the second part before agreeing to participate. After insisting with Alexandre Astier, he managed to get the script. But he was not satisfied with the evolution of his character :
I call Alex, I tell him: I can’t be found. I can’t pretend. I play for fun and I can’t play a character I don’t have feelings for.
The actor then refused to reprise his role in the second part of Kaamelott due to a “personal feeling”. But he insists on this pointhe just wasn’t convinced about his character’s trajectoryand not by the plot of the film as a whole.
The actor sets the record straight
Franck Pitiot also wanted to clarify his relationship with Alexandre Astier. After the announcement of his absence from the film, some speculated about his poor relationship with the director. But the actor supports it his absence has nothing to do with “a settlement of accounts”. According to him it is simply a question of“an artistic dispute” about his character.
Franck Pitiot ends on a positive note as he reveals that he is ready to return in this universe: «I’m not against doing 3. So why not?» If Alexandre Astier continues the story of Kaamelott beyond the second part of the second part, Perceval will perhaps make his return.
