The Phantom of the Operaa cult novel of the 20th century
Written by Gaston Leroux and published in 1910, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of Christine Daaé, a young singer orphan who one day replaces a sick diva to play Marguerite in a performance of Faust. After surprising the spectators, she confesses it to one of her friendsat night she hears a melodious voice, which inspires her. Guillermo del Toro is busy promoting his new film, Frankenstein. This announcement has already sparked enthusiastic reactions on social networks from fans asking the director to make this potential project come true. But it won’t be right away. Because during the same interview, Guillermo del Toro explained it his next project will be related “crime and stop the movement ». Several weeks ago, he revealed that he wanted to do so something totally different from Frankenstein. But at the moment he has not yet revealed precisely what this new project would be.
A French adaptation is in preparation
While some fans want to see Guillermo del Toro tackle this story, a new adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s book is in the works. We learned this last February The Phantom of the Opera would have been the subject ofa new feature film. But this time it will be of the first in French. And his story will be transposed to our time.
This new film will be carried forward by Deva Cassel in the role of Anastasia e Julien De Saint Jean in that of the ghost. Romain Duris will play James Figueras. The feature film will contain “elements of fantasy, period films and thrillers”.
The Phantom of the Opera will be released in theaters September 23, 2026. As for the Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro, will arrive next November 7th on Netflix.
