The Hit Me Hard and Soft track became one of Eilish’s biggest hits and was nominated for three Grammys
The fragile and passionate song of Billie Eilish, “Birds of a Feather”it almost didn’t take off. In a new interview, the singer revealed that she almost discarded the single from the track list of Hit Me Hard and Soft (2024) after considering it “a bit silly”.

“Several times I was like, ‘We should cut this one,’” Eilish told the WSJ. “Even when I played the whole album for the record company, I was like, ‘Guys, this one is kind of silly.’”
Despite initial hesitation, “Birds of a Feather” It ended up appearing on his third studio album and became one of the most inescapable hits of the summer. The single reached second position on the Billboard 200 and led the Billboard Global 200 for three weeks. THE Spotify also declared the track as their most played song of 2024, and the song received nominations for Grammy of Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
At another point in the interview, Eilish discussed the music industry’s initial doubt that his introspective, darker (and sometimes devastating) songs would not appeal to a wide audience. “It’s so funny to think about all the reviews that were like, ‘The songs are too sad,’” she said, adding that when writing “Birds of a Feather”she added “something dark” so it wasn’t all “rainbows and smiles.” The musician added: “We wrote about the idea that you’re going to die soon, and we’re going to make it last.”
