Directors Guild Appoints Director of Photography Rebecca Rhyne as Executive Director West –

Outgoing National Executive Director of the International Cinematographers Guild, Rebecca Raine, will join the Directors Guild of America.

A veteran Hollywood syndicate executive will soon begin serving as the DGA’s Western Executive Director, DGA National Executive Director Russell Hollander announced Friday. “I am delighted that Rebecca is now part of the DGA senior executive team,” Hollander said in a statement. “With her incredible work experience and extensive knowledge of our industry, Rebecca will be an exceptional resource for the DGA and its members. He is an experienced organizer and negotiator, and with three decades of union experience, he has demonstrated his essential ability to fight tough battles and achieve remarkable success. We look forward to using his skills on behalf of the directors and their teams. ”

In this role, Ryne “will oversee the Western Guild and have national responsibility for the Department of Contracts, Security and Agency Relations,” the DGA said. In addition, you will work with the Union Department of Government Affairs on state and local issues of concern to the DGA. Rein will begin her role in October and will report to the Netherlands.

After initially joining the ICG in 2015, notably becoming its first national executive director, Raine has decided to leave the union, IATSE Local 600, this fall when her contract expires. At the ICG, Raine replaces Bruce Doering, who retired after three decades with the guild.

Last year, he represented the venue in contentious negotiations with the Association of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP), which nearly led to a strike before a new deal was reached last November. Local 600 actually voted narrowly in favor of the deal, but United Locals upheld the deal in a close vote. He also led the union through challenges such as the pandemic, which included participating in reaching a COVID-19 safety agreement between IATSE sites and other working groups and AMPTP; and safety concerns following the accidental death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins on set last fall. Oxide. Since then, Local 600 has worked to support state bills aimed at gun safety.

During his seven years at the ICG, he also served as director of the film industry’s health and pension plans and as a board member for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. The ICG has yet to announce Rain’s replacement as national executive director.

Prior to the ICG, Raine served as Executive Director of the Association of Municipal Executives, Labor Representative for San Francisco City and County Managers, a position he held for eight and a half years after serving as Regional Director for SEIU North. A union representing more than 95,000 California employees. Previous work has included serving as Deputy National Executive Director of AFTRA involved in national oversight of public policy and strategic planning and as Executive Director of SAG/AFTRA Local in San Francisco. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Golden Gate University.

Raine’s appointment comes as the DGA prepares to negotiate its latest master agreement with studios and broadcasters, which is set to expire at the end of June 2023.
