superman and laws received some very surprising news last week. It has been revealed that Jordan Elsass, best known for playing Jonathan, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, will be leaving the show ahead of its upcoming third season. At the time it was rumored that Elsass was leaving the Superman show for “personal reasons” and the producers reformulated the role accordingly. Now Elsass himself expresses himself and provides clarifications on his decision to retire.
The 20-year-old star talked about her departure from the CW show during a recent Cameo video that was sent to a fan. In the video, which was shared on Twitter, Jordan Elsass explains that he was indeed looking forward to returning to the series. However, she decided to stay out of the spotlight to preserve her sanity:
It’s been a rough few weeks, as you can imagine, with everything that happened with the show. … It’s sad, it’s really a shame. I know you were excited for season 3, of course, but what are you going to do? Either way, mental health is definitely a 100% priority. It is the pinnacle. It must have priority. And mine has been … the last two years … it’s been difficult.
Before his departure became public knowledge, the actor had done so shared a long post on her Instagram, in which he talked about his struggles for mental health. At this point, it appears the star is trying to take personal time to reflect and plan her next steps:
I need time for myself. I’m still debating whether I’m going to act for a while. Maybe not. I can go in another direction. I know it will definitely be disappointing for some people. … Actually, I think I have a lot of people behind me. [and] they really support me.
Jordan Elsass debuted as Jonathan Kent in superman and lawsPilot episode of 2021. Serious but at times sarcastic, Jonathan is described as more outgoing than his twin brother, Jordan. While the two were close, their dynamic changed when it was revealed that Jordan had inherited his father’s abilities. Jonathan’s insecurities about powerlessness were a focal point of the series, and Elsass portrayed that aspect of the character (and his other personality traits) to perfection. The actor did an even better job in season two, during which John was at the center of a drug scandal. He also formed a strong family relationship with Natalie Irons (played by S&L Season 2 Taylor Buck added).
It is unclear what awaits Jonathan or any of the other characters in the series, which has been confirmed to have separated from the Arrowverse during its finale. Although a meeting between John Henry Irons and John Diggle suggested that Bruno Manheim and Intergang could be the antagonists of the third season. And in the final moments of the episode, Clark also created a new stronghold for his family. So, even without much clarity at this point, some important pieces have been fine-tuned.
Indeed, it is sad to see Jordan Elsass leave the superhero series, although it is comforting to know that he is at peace with the decision and has a number of people by his side during this time. We can only hope that as you progress, you will find something else that will bring you joy and we at Gossipify wish you the best.
