Billie Eilish and her mother, Maggie Baird, will be honored by the Environmental Media Association at the upcoming EMA Awards.
The duo will receive the EMA Missions in Music Award at the October 8 event for their “incredible work as a role model for sustainable behavior”, including Eilish’s current tour. World tour happier than ever– say in the organization.
Together, Eilish and Baird created “Warm Up”, an additional component with climate-focused activities including clothing swaps, documentary screenings and vegan talks, as part of their efforts to communicate sustainable fashion issues and engage fans. It was organized in association with Baird’s charity Support + Feed, which fights food insecurity and the climate crisis with plant-based foods.
“I am delighted to accept the EMA Missions in Music Award this year with my daughter,” said Maggie Baird, who has championed the environment, climate and animals for more than 40 years. “I am so proud that Bill is using his voice to inspire young audiences and advocate for change. It is a dream come true that Bill and I share a passion for the climate crisis. We are stronger together and I know you will continue to have a tremendous impact on this land for generations to come.”
Past Mission Music Award winners include Willie Nelson, Adam Levine, Don Henley, Diane Warren, Alanis Morissette and Dave Matthews.
Meanwhile, Nikki Reed will receive an EMA Innovator Award for her eco-friendly lifestyle and jewelry brand, BaYou With Love. Reid prioritized sustainable and ethical fashion and production, consciously sourcing and supporting local artisans to reuse resources and work towards zero waste.
Past award winners include Van Jones, John Paul DeJoria and Carla Welch.
“The EMA Awards Gala is a special and unique night to reflect on the great work our production partners and fellow environmentalists have accomplished throughout the year,” said Debbie Levine, EMA Executive Director. “This is an opportunity to showcase sustainable brands and leaders and celebrate green milestones in media. We firmly believe that the next generation has the power, creativity and determination to create and implement the solutions we have all worked for for decades. I am always impressed and motivated by the connection and passion of the people in the room.”
The event recognizes the efforts of people working for a greener planet, as well as film and television productions that follow green practices and tell stories about environmental justice, climate action and sustainability. DJ Samantha Ronson will entertain guests by enjoying plant-based dishes from Nic’s on Beverly, with a host to be announced at a later date.
