Monk, inspired by the screenwriter’s brother, will use sign language for the first time on The Simpsons

the simpsons(1989) will win a historic episode this weekend. It will be the first participation of a deaf voice actor, in addition, an unprecedented character will use ASL – American Sign Language.

“The Sound of Bleeding Gums” will air on American television on Sunday, 11, and should accompany smooth with the son of her favorite saxophonist, Bleeding Gums Murphy. John Autry II (glee) will voice the character named monkaccording to the website people.

“It’s so amazing. It’s a participation that changes lives and ensures equality. It can be an impact for change on all of us. It’s about deaf and hearing characters together. It’s a part of the story,” Autry highlighted to Variety.

Loni Steele Sosthandwhich joined the production of simpsons in 2020, she is the screenwriter of the episode and brought many elements of her own life to the plot: “My father is black and jazz was present in our house. We grew up in the suburbs, and it was a way for my father to bring that aspect of our culture When I think of music, I think of my brother, who was born deaf. When we talk about the character of Bleeding Gums, we thought it would be cool if smooth discover this other side of his life. We based this character on my brother.”
