Cate Blanchett Becomes Angry Driver in Todd Field Trailer TarThe director’s first film in 16 years, scheduled to premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
Blanchett plays fictional driver Lydia Tarr, who at the beginning of the trailer stands against a black background and spews smoke from her mouth in slow motion. This sets up a monologue about the importance of time.
“You can’t start without me. I’m starting the clock,” the voice says, as Tar leans over a pile of classical music records and strikes a contemplative nail-biting pose.
Through live-action montage, photographs, drawings and other visual materials, the trailer and its narrative convey a woman who spirals out of control and possibly ends up a victim, finding ecstasy on a director’s podium.
In the film, Tarr is considered one of the greatest living composers and conductors and the first principal conductor of a major German orchestra. The film’s supporting cast includes Nina Hoss, Noemi Merlant, Sophie Cowher, Julian Glover, Mark Strong, Alan Corduner and Sylvia Fleet.
points for this Tar Written by Hildur Guðnadóttir, the first female songwriter to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Best Original Music.
Tar Opens on the 7th of October.
