The news was confirmed by NBC Los Angeles and, later, by the actress herself, who used her official profile on Twitter to talk about the confusion. “That was really scary. I saw a man repeatedly kicking a small dog at sunset, pulling him in the air and choking the dog. I yelled at him to stop my car but he didn’t stop. I got out of my car to try to catch the dog, but he started to run.”

The actress confesses that she started chasing the man and asked for help from other people around, because she believed she would not be able to rescue the animal alone. When a group of men went after the attacker, Malone returned to her car and drove towards the conflict.

“6 blocks away from where the chase started, a large group gathered and it looked like the man didn’t have the dog anymore. So I stopped to make sure that dog would be taken care of. I didn’t see the fight, but I was told the man didn’t gave up the dog without a fight.”

Finally, the actress said that the police took the attacker and the dog, which was taken to the hospital. “I’m sorry it ended in a fight, but the dog was going to die. Without a doubt. I can’t imagine the level of torture he’s suffered up to this point.”

malone stated that the dog, named champion, fractured a rib, broke some bones and was wounded in the paw. To help with the animal’s recovery, the actress shared a link to an online fundraiser.

“Update: The dog has been chipped and has returned with the owner. The dog has been missing for a week. His name is champion and is happy outside the hospital with his owner. Stay tuned for the Go Fund Me link coming soon. His multiple surgeries will be too much for the owner to handle alone.”
