A ghost for a new generation?
Recorded in the teen romance movement, In between Reflects all the codes: a small American town, a young engineer, his meeting with a local athlete, and, inevitably, a tragic accident. Enough to satisfy the romantic appetite of the most blue flowers. However, this adaptation of Mark Klein’s novel – published only in June 2021 – features a mix of melodrama fantasy.
Joey King plays Tessa, a photography enthusiast who crosses the road with Skylar during the film session, played by Kyle Allen. When the latter dies in a car accident, the idyll flies. Faced with deficiency and loneliness, the heroine believes that she receives signs from her spiritual companion from the outside.

It is impossible not to think of Ghost, an iconic film of the nineties in which the character of the ghostly Patrick Swayze tries to connect with a loved one played by Demi Moore. Not a pottery scene here, but a sweet mix between drama and ghost history. The narrative alternates between the past and the present, without disturbing the story.
Favorite duo
Yes In between It works quite well, it’s the merit of its cast duo. In all three films The Kissing Booth, Joey King is already a star on the Netflix planet. But it was his role in the drama series The Act that proved his talent. In this fantastic novel he signs a convincing and sensible interpretation. In her face, Kyle Allen, who is in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, has enough presence and charisma to make this story come alive.
Not sure that In between It may win over those who are more reluctant towards this genre, but the film should bring a few tears to the viewer already in the case of youth romances.
