The director of Star Wars: Episode 8 is increasingly proud of his film

Director Rian Johnson approves and signs off! It’s been five years since The Last Jedi, which many fans dismissed as damaging the trilogy it was part of, which was preceded by The Force Awakens and followed by The Rise of Skywalker.

Indeed, the film contradicted the first with some pretty radical choices, such as Luke shooting his lightsaber, which was the entire point of the previous feature film, or the decision to kill the First Order’s Supreme Leader Snoke, who had a priori been designed to be the villain of the entire trilogy.

“Five years later, I’m even more proud of it. When I had the stick in my hand, I returned the ball very well. I think it’s impossible for anyone to approach Star Wars without seeing this world as the myth that we grew up with. Up and it got into us and affected us like its story .

The ultimate intention was not to abolish but to return to the fundamental power of myth. Ultimately, I hope the film is about the power of the Star Wars mythos in our lives.”

And it is on this myth that the filmmaker wanted to end his film, according to him, with respect to the roots of the saga:

For me, the final images of the film don’t break the Luke Skywalker myth, they shape it and make it. They force him to go absolutely beyond the notion of forgetting the past and pursue what is truly important to his myth and inspires a new generation. So, for me, the dismantling process is always something essential and really important.

Despite the controversy, The Last Jedi grossed $1.3 billion in theaters.
