Paramount is revamping its streaming package strategy in important ways, centering it on the main Paramount+ app.
Starting today, Showtime programming is coming to Paramount+ as part of a revamped package of the two content services. The set will see the Showtime schedule yellow jackets, billions Dexter: New Blood Available in the same app as Paramount+ programs Star Trek: Discovery, Hellos 1883.
This is the first time that programming for both services will be available in one app. While Paramount rolled out a bundle of the two services last year, subscribers had to access content through the separate Showtime and Paramount+ apps. Bundle subscribers can now access all programming through the main Paramount+ app, and Paramount+ users can upgrade to the bundle at any time for instant access to Showtime shows.
The bundle will cost $11.99 (for the ad-supported Paramount+ tier) and $14.99 for the ad-free tier.
Paramount is also releasing a new bundle with a promotional price of $7.99 a month for the entry level and $12.99 ad-free through October 2nd. Additionally, users can continue to subscribe to Showtime’s exclusive streaming service for $10.99 per month. , though Paramount’s aggressive pricing is likely to keep those numbers low.
Paramount said earlier this month that it had around 64 million streaming subscribers, most of which were Paramount+.
As with HBO Max’s ad-supported service, Showtime’s programming will be ad-free at both levels of the service. HBO Max combines HBO programming and movies, as well as HBO Max original shows. HBO’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, says it will launch Discovery+ and HBO Max on a new super service next year, the details of which have yet to be determined.
By adding Showtime to Paramount+’s core application, Paramount can significantly increase the programming available to subscribers in a value proposition. In addition to the Showtime series, the service also showcases combat sports like boxing, as well as a list of purchased movies.
“The Paramount+ Showtime package offers consumers unprecedented value by offering one of the most extensive content libraries on the market at one of the lowest prices,” said Tom Ryan, president and CEO of Paramount Global Streaming, in a statement. “This unique user experience improves enrollment and enhances discovery, and this low price will allow more families to enjoy this exceptional packaged entertainment offering.”
