Jane Fonda is battling cancer.
The 84-year-old actor announced on Instagram on Friday that he has started chemotherapy for a “highly curable” form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“I feel very lucky,” writes Fonda, citing the statistic that 80% of people survive. “I’m also lucky because I have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments. I realize, and it pains me, that I am privileged in this. “Almost every family in the United States has had to deal with cancer at one time or another, and many don’t have access to the quality health care I receive, and that’s just not right.”
Fonda continues to use diagnostics and focuses on links between fossil fuels and cancer, saying his form of cancer is “fossil fuel based”.
“I’ve been on chemo for 6 months and I’m doing great, and trust me, I’m not going to let that stop me from being active in the climate,” the activist continues. “Cancer is a teacher and I pay attention to its lessons. One thing he’s already shown me is the importance of community. Grow and deepen our community so that we are not alone. And cancer, along with my age – almost 85 – really teaches us the importance of adapting to new realities.
