Jessica Chastain is starting to share details of her trip to Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia, during which she met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In the video, Chastain can be heard narrating several clips, listing some surprising war-related statistics. “So the number of refugees from Ukraine is now 5.1 million who went to EU countries, with another 7.7 million internally displaced,” he says as he drives through Kyiv. “Ukraine’s population before the war was 44 million. 6,710 civilians, including 359 children, died as a result of war crimes; 8,741 civilians were injured, including 700 children.
While some of the clips show buildings in the vicinity of his car, many of the clips feature actors and producers visiting a local children’s hospital. At one point, the boy hands Chastain a photo they took of her at the end of the video in her car, with her on her lap.
“One of the experiences of this trip that changed my life was my visit to the children’s hospital: Ohmatdyt. I had the opportunity to meet the amazing kids and the director, Volodymyr Zhovnir. The kids surprised me with their hope and strength,” he tweeted of the video’s content.
“Many were displaced from their homes and spent months in hospital. There is a huge humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. We can’t forget the innocents who died [sic] with senseless acts of violence,” he added. “Grateful to have met these sweet little boys with big brave hearts.”
Chastain’s visit to Ukraine was first reported in early August, when Zelensky shared a photo of the pair on his Telegram profile.
