John Legend talks about how Chrissy Teigen’s tragic miscarriage brought the couple closer and made them stronger.
In September 2020, Teigen revealed that she had miscarried after being hospitalized for partial placental abruption and was due to give birth to her son Jack at 20 weeks.
“We are in shock and in pain so deep you can only hear it, pain like you’ve never felt before,” Teigen wrote at the time. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give the baby the fluids he needed, despite the blood transfusions.” It just wasn’t enough.”
Recently he is a yorker In the profile, Legend spoke candidly about that moment in their lives and how he and his wife may never fill the void left by the loss of Jack, but they are working to move on and be happy.
“It made us stronger, we were together, even if we were a little broken because we had to hug and support each other,” Legend told the publication. “This is your way of pretending.”
The musician admitted that she was initially hesitant to share something as personal as they chose with the world, but quickly realized how important it was for Teigen to do so, breaking the taboo around discussing abortions.
“It wasn’t just honest,” Legend said, “what it did was open up more conversations between people who were afraid to share those kinds of details, who were embarrassed if they missed a pregnancy.”
Now that Teigen is pregnant again, the EGOT winner said she is “blatantly optimistic” for fear of tragedy happening again, but is looking forward to the new baby.
“I can’t wait to fill the void we felt when we lost Jack,” he added. “I feel like there will be a new person in our lives who will love us and make our lives more fun. We will always carry this pain of Jack’s, but we will continue to live, love and find joy in life.”
In the same interview, Legend also spoke about his relationship with his longtime friend and collaborator Kanye “Ye” West and explained what really happened between them.
“As described, we stopped being friends because he was supportive. [Donald] Trump, that was a mischaracterization,” he said. He was saying that he was very upset with me for not supporting him in the presidential election, and that was the real reason for the tension in our friendship.
The caption went on to say that they haven’t really been friends since he endorsed Joe Biden for president, but he doesn’t know what’s in store for them, explaining that it’s up to Ye to get over him and rebuild their friendship.
“I don’t want to live a life so mired in politics that it’s the sole determinant of who can be my friend and who can’t,” the musician continued. “But values, character and moral compass are important.
When Legend tried to talk to Ye about how he was expressing support for Trump on his platforms and influencing his followers, Ye posted screenshots of the conversation on Twitter, which Legend also addressed on his profile.
He explained that he was trying to see things differently and use the influence he had on his fans in a different way.
“I spoke to him with love and compassion and tried to help myself see things in a different light,” said Legend. “And it obviously came out the way it came out.”
When Ye decided to run for president, Legend said he found it frustrating that his campaign was fueled by Trump officials who raised money for Ye, signed petitions and took him to the ballet.
“I saw his work on his behalf as a clear fraud and an operation to try and take the black vote out of Biden, so I would not support him,” Legend said. Kanye was upset about it and we haven’t been friends since.
