Josh Freese joined the band for “Times Like These” and “All My Life”, while Travis Barker – who Grohl remembers was in the band, but also “the trash next door to Taylor” when they first met – managed the band. “The suitor” and “The Monkey’s Wrench”.

I wasn’t,” he said. “I got into a drum fight and he kicked my ass in front of the whole world.”

Rufus Taylor took over drums on “These Days” and “Best of You”. Grohl said: “We’ve known him since he was a kid because he was in his dad’s band. [Rush] It’s Taylor’s favorite band, and I think his father was Taylor’s favorite singer.”

As the Foo Fighters continued their best sets, Grohl joking, “We’ve got another little surprise for you,” leaving a few other superstars center stage: Paul McCartney and Chrissy Hynde, who teamed up for a surprise duet. Woe to the Beatles! Darling”, swapping vocals for lyrics, before McCartney played “Helter Skelter”. McCartney revealed he never did the ‘Oh! Darling’ duet until Saturday night and it’s not really a song performed ‘since we recorded 100 years ago’. He also said, “God bless Taylor.”

Omar Hakim helped McCartney on drums and remained on stage as the Foo Fighters returned to their hits. Of “Aurora”, Grohl said, “I think the next song was Taylor’s favorite song on Foo Fighters.”

The disturbing moment of the night had arrived. “Let me tell you,” Grohl said, introducing a special drummer to the crowd. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone play the drums as loudly as this man… He’s part of our family and he should be here with us tonight.” A photo of Hawkins with his son Shane was shown on the big screen, and the teenager joined the band to play “My Hero” on drums.

“I hope you feel the love from all of us and the artists as we feel from you, Taylor, tonight,” Grohl said when the night ended. “I really don’t know what else to say.”

“This is for Taylor,” he said, ending a great night of music with “Everlong.”

“Let’s hear the big loud Taylor who’s playing with Hawkins right now,” Grohl said.
