Jojo Siva will be a game-changer at GLSEN’s upcoming Respect Los Angeles Gala on October 14th.
At an event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Siva will receive the official Gamechanger Award “for his advocacy and focus on anti-bullying and kindness to the LGBTQ+ community,” according to the nonprofit. This work started after the release of Siwa in January 2021.
“She is a fierce advocate for kindness, self-acceptance and the LGBTQ+ community,” said GLSEN Executive Director Melanie Willingham-Jaggers. “She was so kind to come out and continues to tell her story in ways that touch and inspire young LGBTQ+ people around the world.”
For his part, Siva said that he was honored to receive this splendor. “I have always strived to make spreading positivity, self-love, inclusion and acceptance central to everything I do, and I am excited to support GLSEN’s incredible mission to provide a safe and inclusive school experience for LGBTQ+ youth.
Introduced in 2004 and held annually in Los Angeles and New York, the GLSEN Respect Awards showcase the work of students, educators, community leaders and corporations who are role models and have had a significant impact on the lives of LGBTQ+ youth. The honorary co-chairs of the event are Jennifer Beals, Greg Berlanti and Robbie Rogers, Matt Bomer and Simon Halls, Jess Cagle and Matt Whitney, Rosario Dawson, Connor Franta, Bob Greenblatt and Steven Loguidice, Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Elenda Pompey. Rhimes, Julia Roberts and Danny Moder and Octavia Spencer.
